Ever wondered about the people who live where you are visiting?  Ever gone on holiday and seen the sights and other tourists but don't know what it is like to live there?

Stay in one of our historic cottages and  enjoy the peace of the mountains while meeting real people who actually live here all year round and can tell you about the history of the railways and what it was like to live here in the sixties and how hard it must have been when the town was first built in 1923 before everyone had cars.  Ask about the mountain treks or river walks.  Pick blackberries  or tiger lilies in season or come in winter and play in the snow, get lost in the reserve behind the houses (then find your way out following the power lines) or relax with a good book in front of the fire. 

The name "Otira" means place of rest and food before a long journey - referring to the mountain crossing between East and West.

Cafe open for meals and snacks 8.30am to 8pm.

Bar open 10am to late.  During winter we encourage you to take your drink thru to the cafe in front of the welcoming fire.
